Comic Summary: In the late nineties the Lost World RPG system was briefly revived (and revised) again for use in a series of comic books. The Battlebooks started out with characters from the Marvel Universe and later expanded into other comics. Two cards were bound into the comic book. One listed the rules and identified the features of the game. The second card was the character's Maneuver Card which listed the actions the character could take in combat. Each player picks a character and game books are exchanged so each player has a book that depicts POV illustrations of the opponent attacking. Maneuvers are simultaneously selected and the matrix encoded into the books determines the results of each exchange.

Comic Notes: Fun Facts: This comic can be used to play a game, similar to a card game. Each issue is a different character.

Comic Summary: Bishop has a nightmare. In it, he finds the X-mansion destroyed, and all of the X-Men killed. As he wonders what happened, he finds a sole survivor running through the hallways: Jean Grey. Jean says it’s their own fault they’re into this mess, and never should have trusted him. On that moment, Jean is shot by... Bishop himself? Bishop stares in disbelief at an evil version of himself, and that’s when he wakes up screaming. He’s in the infirmary of the school, where Forge explains he manage to repair the projector Bishop gave him earlier. He made Shard part of Bishop’s brainwaves now and, even though she’s a hologram, Shard is as real as she ever will be. Shard and Bishop have a discussion with Professor Xavier about how to properly deal with Mountjoy. Shard believes Bishop should have killed Mountjoy when he had the chance, regardless of him hading absorbed Storm at the time. Bishop agrees with Shard and returns to his former career as an X.S.E. agent, meaning he can kill in the line of duty. And if that means he has to resign as an X-Man, so be it. He and Shard leave and continue their search for Mountjoy. Mountjoy, in the meantime, has absorbed another victim, and uses it to move downtown in the hopes to find Bishop and Bantam, so they can end their dispute. Both Bishop and Mountjoy infiltrate in the local police station, where Bishop first hoped to learn more about Mountjoy’s whereabouts. When a battle between Mountjoy and Bishop occurs, they go back outside. Mountjoy steals a police car and Bishop drives on a bike he got as a gift from Forge and Wolverine, and the two chase each other on the freeway. When Bishop fires at Montjoy’s place, an explosion takes place, which takes them both out. Bishop wakes up a few minutes later, only to find himself back... at his own future timeline?! He is helped up by his sister Shard, who’s... alive?! Bishop wonders if he dreamed his entire time with the X-Men or not, and if he ever even left this time era.

Comic Summary: Mountjoy, having possessed Bishop’s body, enters Xavier’s school where he attacks the present X-Men. He successfully absorbs Gambit, Psylocke and, later, a visiting Archangel. However, Bishop manages to break himself free and faces Mountjoy in combat, though Mountjoy defeats him and next wants to absorb Professor Xavier. Bishop makes a plan, for which he needs Shard’s help. She lures Mountjoy to the Danger Room, where Bishop simulates a battleground of their future timeline. He attacks a distracted Mountjoy and eventually takes him down, but can’t bring it in his heart to kill him, as Shard wants him to do. However, Mountjoy then recovers and attacks Shard, wanting to kill her. Shard orders Bishop to fire one last blast to take them both down, but Bishop is worried it will ruin Shard’s holographic matrix, meaning she’ll be lost again, this time forever. Shard doesn’t mind and Bishop does as told. The absorbed X-Men are freed from Mountjoy’s body, and the villain himself is down as well. Unfortunately, Shard’s holographic image is too badly damaged due to the blast and, after the two siblings say they love each other one final time, she fades away. Having witnessed everything from the Danger Room’s control room, Professor X explains to Beast that Bishop has truly grown and changed since becoming an X-Man, and believes that he embodies what his dream is all about. Also, Charles believes that by not killing Mountjoy, Bishop has finally truly become one of them.

Comic Summary: Bishop wakes up in a refugee camp, where he is about to be tortured by Scorch, who thinks he works for the Chronomancer. The Witness of all people intervenes and reveals to Bishop that the Chronomancer is Fitzroy and cryptically tells Bishop that he has come to this time period to stop Fitzroy once and for all. Bishop is confused as to what is happening and Scorch is skeptical that he is Bishop from the X-Men legends, though Link, a telepath, is able to confirm that Bishop is who he is. Jinx takes an immediate liking towards Bishop and gives him a tour of the camp, informing him that all of these people are there because the Chronomancer and his Chronotroopers took everything they had. Scorch is angry to learn that Bishop knows the Chronomancer and asks why he didn’t stop the man when he had the chance. The two get into a fight that looks grim for Bishop, but he is able to absorb enough heat from Scorch’s flames to defeat the man, though at the same time he proves that he had the power to defeat Fitzroy, but did not and now these people are suffering for Bishop’s mistakes. Bishop and Jinx talk in the forest, where Jinx shows him an X-Men badge she found as a child. She is about to kiss him when Michael comes out of the forest. Before explanations can occur, the Chronotroopers attack the camp. Meanwhile, Fitzroy has captured Shard and reveals that he still loves her and has plans for them in the future.

Comic Summary: Bishop hides Michael in the forest and tells him to stay, while he fights off the Chronomancer’s troops in the refugee camp. Bishop joins the battle with Nom, Jinx and Scorch, the latter revealing to Bishop that the Chronotroopers came looking for him. Jinx falls down a slope and finds herself by a mass grave, filled with the burning remains of the camp’s residents. Nearby in a tent, Link tells the Witness that they must go, but the man cryptically tells her that he is not escaping this time. He tells Link to tell the survivors to go to Dunduine and tells her not to worry about the leadership, which will work itself out. A Chronotrooper attacks the two and Link escapes, while the Witness charges up the attacker with kinetic energy and both are obliterated. Michael is attacked by two Chronotroopers, but Bishop saves him, though he is disheartened after discovering the bloody body of Merrian. The battle ends with few survivors: Michael, Bishop, Nom, Scorch, Jinx and Link. Bishop tells Michael that they will work on a plan to go home immediately, but Michael convinces the despondent Bishop that these people did not die at his hands and he cannot blame himself. What he can do is find whoever is responsible. Bishop agrees and, upon hearing where the Witness wanted them to go, he rallies the survivors and wipes away their M’s and, instead, replaces them with X’s. Meanwhile, Bantam voices his concerns to Fitzroy, who dismisses him and claims that he is not mad. Bantam is not so sure, though, as Fitzroy kills five children prisoners, after convincing them that they are playing a game.

Comic Summary: Bishop and the Chronomancer face each other in combat. At the same time, the Morlocks, the refugee army and the Kith bravely fight against the Chronotroopers. Scorch drags the badly injured Jinx away from the battle, hoping to save her life. He finds an abandoned temple in which he is reunited with Link and Michael. Once there, the team receives the unexpected help of Nom and his fellow giants. Back at Fitzroy’s castle, Shard thinks she has to do something about the battle, but still lies in chains. She finds a piece of glass, looks at her chains and knows what she has to do. Fitzroy absorbs some of Bishop’s energy, which is too much for Bishop to handle, and he falls back. Fitzroy walks over to his portal and is ready to become a god. On that moment, Shard meets up with Bishop, though she had to cut off one of her arms in order to free herself. She wants Bishop to stop Fitzroy in any way possible, so she lets her brother absorb all of her energy. Bishop re-channels his sister, and fires the energy at Fitzroy before he jumps into the portal. However, the blast misses and gets fired inside the portal. Fitzroy laughs and jumps inside, but Bishop jumps at him and holds Fitzroy back. The portal starts to close down, and Bishop is too angry to let go. Just as he realizes what he’s doing, Bishop wants to let go, but then the portal closes around Fitzroy, and he vanishes alongside with it. Bishop lands into the snow, but glows with energy. The remains of the portal strike in Bishop’s body, causing an explosion, and as the dust clears... Bishop is gone! Only his X-badge remains. Scorch, Jinx, Link, Nom, the Witness, the Kith and Michael are all unsure about what’s going to happen next.

Comic Summary: The X-Men find an unconscious man lying nearby the Black Panther and think he has gone insane. When the man tries to reach out to the mutants for help, the Panther pulls him black and closes the X-Men in behind a door, so he can deal with the situation alone. Despite Storm’s warnings to trust T’Challa, Havok orders Rogue to burst open the door with her flame powers. She does, and the X-Men begin their battle against the Panther. During the battle, Rogue tries to help the attacked man out, and then he shows his true colors. He’s actually a mutant himself, and absorbs Rogue’s powers! He attacks the other X-Men succeeding in absorbing both Iceman’s and Wolverine’s powers. Havok manages to hit the man and makes him fly through the roof. Once everyone is calmed down, the Panther reveals that their enemy is called Erich Paine, a former resident of Genosha, who transformed people into becoming mutants. Paine also activated his own latent mimicking mutant powers, so he had powers on his own, which he can turn on and off by a single touch on his arm. Paine did this because he knew that, no matter where he was, the X-Men would some day come after him, so he took some precautions. T’Challa was in the lab to try build a containment suit for Paine, so he couldn’t harm the X-Men. Feeling stupid, the X-Men, minus Storm, initiate a search for him. Storm and T’Challa talk about the former romantic feelings they once shared, with Ororo refusing to let T’Challa break her heart a second time. She takes on T’Challa’s warnings that some people are being harassed by hunters, and Ororo leaves to protect them. Returning to her role as the Goddess of the Desert, a bare-naked Storm locates and helps a poor mother and her child. Meanwhile, the other X-Men get knocked out by powerful gas, and Paine strikes Wolverine down with the help of his absorbed adamantium claws. A few moments later, he contacts his boss and has imprisoned the X-Men in separate containment cells. Paine informs his boss that, after a final payment his job will be fulfilled, and he can also have the X-Men: as a set, single… or in parts! He opens Lorna’s cell, holding a chainsaw ready.

Scared of the X-Men’s various mutant powers, the Red Ghost agrees to work with them to find a way to stop Paine, as he dislikes the man too. They return to Paine, but he refuses to release Lorna, as he wants the X-Men to do more dirty jobs for them. A battle breaks loose, which eventually ends with the Red Ghost killing Paine by ripping his heart out of the guy’s chest! After T’Challa rescues Lorna out of her cage, the X-Men go after the Ghost, who disappeared again. He locates his apes, and laughs at their plan to release their virus and start a new “Ape Age.“ The X-Men and the Panther find them as well.
