Comic Summary: Trouble brews in New Orleans when the Tithe Collector arrives. The Tithing is an ancient guild ceremony, and as the Assassins want the Tithe Collector’s gifts for themselves, they start as the killing members of the Thieves Guild. Jean-Luc, leader of the thieves, thinks that this year it should be Remy LeBeau who receives the gift. Gambit’s brother Henri LeBeau breaks into the mansion, interrupting a Danger Room session, in order to tell Remy what is going on in his home town. However shortly after his arrival he is shot by members of the Assassin’s Guild. Henri’s passing words are that things aren’t always as they seem. Gambit chases the killers down only to be confronted by his previously thought deceased brother-in-law Julien. Gambit fights the Assassins to a stand-still until suddenly Julien lets himself be penetrated by a sword, proving that he can’t be killed. The Assassins leave through a teleportation portal, though not before Julien can taunt Gambit with his sister, Gambit’s wife Bella Donna, still being alive. Against the direct warning not to come to New Orleans, Gambit decides that he has to, as it is family business. He is joined by Rogue who refuses to let him go by himself, even though finding Gambit‘s wife might end the relationship she and Gambit have just started.

Comic Notes: Character Interaction: Jean-Luc LeBeau, Henri Lebeau, Rogue

Charged Items: Tree Limb, Lock Pick

Power Shift: In Gambit's early history, Gambit had the ability to sense, block, and hide himself from telepaths. In this issue Gambit sensed his brother coming onto the property even though none of the telepaths in the team could sense him. This hinting that the ability to block telepaths may be a learned guild trick over a mutant ability. Overall it was never explained and practically forgotten, other than random comments by other teammates in future comics.

Fun Fact: This issue is the first appearance of Jean Luc and Henri LeBeau, Gambit's family and also Candra and her servant, Tithe Collector.

Comic Summary: Though he hates it, Gambit returns back to New Orleans and finds out that the rumors he heard are true: Bella Donna is alive! However, she is comatose. Gambit becomes disturbed and is attacked by his father-in-law, Marius Boudreaux, and the rest of the Assassins Guild. Gambit gets the help of Rogue and, together, they defeat their enemies. Marius informs Gambit that, if he truly wants to rescue his wife, he should let her have a taste of the Elixir of Life the Thieves Guild have. Gambit doesn’t know what Marius is talking about, but he and Rogue do as told and pay a visit to Gambit’s adoptive father, Jean-Luc. As they leave, Julien pays a visit to his father and kills most Assassins and Marius. Julien wants to have the Elixir for himself and rule a new Assassins Guild together with Bella Donna. Gambit disturbs a ritual of the Thieves’ Guild, which causes an upset Tithe Collector to take off and not granting the Thieves their pact of granting them long life. Jean-Luc holds the angry Thieves members from killing his son and informs Gambit that he doesn’t have all three vials needed to make the Elixir work. Rogue agrees to stay behind and take care of Bella Donna, while Gambit gets the vials. Comic Summary: Gambit and Jean-Luc make it to the Church of the Lost Thieves in New Orleans, where they attack Julien and take the last vial of the Elixir of Life from him. Gambit is followed by angry Thieves and Assassins, but fights his way through. Julien confronts Gambit, revealing his horribly shredded face and explains that he has the Elixir to thank for it. Though few suffer from the side effects, Bella Donna could end up the same way. Gambit makes it back to Rogue, who is attacked and defeated by the Tithe Collector. Gambit frees her and defeats the Tithe Collector. As he prepares the Elixir, Rogue informs Gambit what happened with her and Bella Donna and that she loves him, but Gambit is so busy that he doesn’t hear any of it. Just as he wants to give Belle the potion, Gambit is attacked by Julien, who wants the potion for himself. Julien breaks the Elixir and small contents drop just near Belle’s bed. Marius steps in and kills his own son. Gambit apologizes for having failed and wants Marius to kill him. Before it can come to that, however, Candra shows up. Both the Thieves and the Assassins now realize the side effects of their cooperation and refuse to work together with her. Candra realizes her defeat and teleports away. Jean-Luc thanks his son for everything he has done, and promises that future generations will see Gambit as a saint. But, for what he has done, Jean-Luc orders Gambit to never come back to New Orleans or to the family. Gambit has noticed small contents drop near Belle’s bed and picks them up. He makes Belle drink them and she wakes up! Unfortunately, Bella Donna seems to have a memory loss and doesn’t even recognize Gambit. Gambit lies for her own good and simply tells Belle that he’s a concerned friend and that she has to go with Marius, her father. Comic Summary: One week ago, a fallen star had been spotted by several people. Among them were Father Miguel Bonavita, Tante Mattie and the evil Oliver Stoker. Each of them wants to obtain the star for different reasons. Some reasons are good, others pure evil. Father Bonavita sends two of his young acolytes, Katrina and Marcelo, after the star, planning to give her a chance to return to the heavens. One week later, Gambit arrives in Miami and breaks into a museum of stolen art. At the museum, he steals the Cross of Redemption but his thievery is disturbed by Tante Mattie, who warns him that they’ve got the Lord’s work to do. Uninterested, Gambit doesn’t notice stepping into the security system of the museum, which alerts the security guards. Gambit fights his way through and escapes. Walking down the Miami streets, Gambit notices most people wandering towards the beach. Curious, he follows and can’t believe what he sees: a beautiful, blond-haired and naked woman falls from the sky! The woman walks towards Gambit, but doesn’t say anything. Gambit is attacked by the guards and runs away with the mysterious woman. The woman notices Stoker, who’s with the guards and is obviously scared of him. Gambit gets ambushed by the guards and shot as well, falling into a deep river. Stoker sends his goons after the woman, who herself disappears, and an unconcious Gambit believes that he is dying. Mattie reveals him otherwise, as they’ve still got the Lord’s work to do, whether Gambit likes it or not. The woman appears in front of Remy again and transforms herself into a bright light. Comic Summary: Remy tried to steal data from Moira; the security system blasted the datacore into space with him still aboard. He jumps off, but his parachute catches fire and Remy crash-lands. Much debris falls towards him. Remy and Storm fly to Scotland commercial, and reminisce about their thieving days, when Storm was regressed to a child’s body. She admits that she framed the Thieves' Guild for the Safilios job, and he in turn hired the Assassins' Guild, starting a clan war. She and he have each made mistakes in life. At Muir Island, Moira examines Remy's new power to delay his charges; Remy jokingly credits the green energy succubus inside him. The X-Cutioner hires the former Elysian Guard to help him nail Remy: they had been fired after failing to stop Remy. Fontanelle investigates Tante Mattie's dreams; in 1891 she was a child voodoo practitioner, unable to heal a powerful man, and Remy (somehow there as an adult) saved her from a vengeful mob. The electricity goes off in Muir Island; Moira has rigged the system to blast into space and explode in such a case, to protect it from Bastion or any other attempted download. Remy goes to retrieve the data. He rides the data core up; parachutes down when it blows; and is able to save and copy the hard drive. Remy avoids the debris and returns to Moira’s lab and hands her the rescued hard drive. She thanks him, but he doesn’t feel heroic, as he copied the data, which he was hired to steal for the New Son. Comic Summary: Gambit is restless fulfilling his debt to the New Son, so he follows his messenger Courier to find out more about him. Courier addresses the Crew A.S.K.E.W., a for-profit research group. One of them, the Pelican, interrupts; he has acquired a will-sapping gas, which he wants mass-produced. The canister cracks; turns out the gas has the side effect of melting your face off. The gas is sucked back into the canister; the Mengo brothers enter; they now control everyone (they are working for the Pig), except Courier; he can control every cell in his body and can’t be affected by the gas. Remy blows his way in and leaves with Courier and the canister. Fontanelle investigates Sekmeht’s dreams: digging up relics of En Sabah Nur in Egypt, confronting Ozymandias, being rescued from a fall by Remy. Fontanelle says Sekmeht mixes her need for parental approval (archeology) and her repressed desires (Remy) in her dreams. The Mengo brothers trace the canister; Remy rides to "Onslaught Alley" on the east side, where the air is still energized, to throw them off. They catch up and start shooting; Remy redirects missiles and collapses two buildings onto each other, but lets the canister drop. The homeless Huey and Quiet Bill are present during the fight. Bill, probably a mutant, has a portal of green energy around him, in which images of other realities appear, but he can’t control this. Suddenly a large portal forms and envelops the Mengo’s ship full of A.S.K.E.W. scientists. The Mengos pick up the canister and escape; Remy invites Bill to Xavier’s, but he declines. Turns out the Mengos only have the outer casing: Gambit has the gas in a container and knows the Pig will come for it.

Comic Summary: Chicault is a former Assassin who is now a vampire, and he has been attacking children in the Antiquary's collection in New Orleans. Blade interrupts, but the vampire gets away. Tante Mattie summons Remy home, to a cabin outside the city. She says Fontanelle and the Antiquary are after him; his father Jean-Luc arrives with the boy Jerome, who was attacked last night. Tome and Hoard, ministers of the Antiquary, inform Bella Donna that her dead Assassin is actually undead and is killing their clan; Remy arranges to overhear. Fontanelle investigates Ryking's dreams; he was a boyhood friend of Prof. Xavier in Alamogordo, and he saw an old woman there who said "black womb." Denti has been preparing his new team, the former Elysian Guard, to catch Remy, and he plans to use Rogue as bait. Remy searches the graveyards all day for Chicault; at dusk Blade attacks him, assuming him to be a vampire because he has red eyes. After the misunderstanding is cleared up, they talk and ally to go to the Antiquary's museum. He is missing; Tome and Hoard are curators now. Clan LeBeau offers to stop Chicault if they get access to the library. Duiring the original attack Chicault bit Jerome on the wrist, apparently enough to have some mental hold over the boy. At night he instructs him to bite the rest of the Antiquary's slave children. They open the door for him; he enters the library, planning to spend his eternity doing historical research. Blade, Remy, and Jean-Luc attack. Blade decapitates the vampire, and the children revert back to normal and are freed. Tome and Hoard grab Chicault's notebook without anyone else noticing it. The Pig stops torturing the Mengos for their failures and sends them after a boy named Shirow, who is the source of the mind-controlling gas (last issue) and has escaped with Zoe, who drives with him towards New Orleans.

Comic Summary: Denti questions the disparity between his roles as FBI agent and as the X-Cutioner. But both halves of him agree to hate Remy. As planned, he has Maria Ellenthorpe ambush Rogue with one of his gizmos, to use her as bait. Realizing Rogue is missing, Xavier lectures Remy on total truthfulness within the team, saying he should have informed them about his earlier fight with Denti. The X-Cutioner sends a message, and at his coordinates, the X-Men find a stargate. Apparently a trap, they decide to use it anyway, but it only takes Remy. Fontanelle decides to look at the dreams of the New Son, who hired her to investigate Remy. Strange images: some recognizeable as Rogue and Magneto at the end of the AOA and the Dark Beast. The New Son discovers her presence and kicks her out of his mind. Remy, exhausted, emerges from the stargate. The green energy entity within him breaks loose; they argue briefly, but then she returns to his body. Remy bests the Firing Squad and gets past Denti but is knocked out by his last gizmo. But before Denti can deliver the killing blow, Rogue breaks free, and Remy shoots Denti with his own staff and leaves with Rogue, meeting the X-Men at the other side of the stargate. Denti, his face mask damaged, shoots at the Firing Squad, mistaking them for Rogue and Remy. He realizes his error, too late. Just like his father, an army man who lost control and shot his own men. As X-Cutioner, he should execute himself. Zoe takes her brother Shirow to the New Orleans Thieves’ Guild for sanctuary. The Mengos are right behind her, hunting them down for the Pig.

Comic Summary: Gambit easily defeats the dying Creed and considers finishing him, but he needs help with Xavier's secret. Creed agrees, so he can live to revenge himself on whomever attacked him. He will get Remy to Sinister’s hideout in exchange for Sinister jumpstarting his healing factor. They fly to Tasmania and infiltrate Sinister's base, through a portal under a rock in a river in a gorge. Remy sees it’s like the one in Nebraska, and Creed explains it’s the same base, with entrances around the world. The Marauders attack; Scalphunter shoots Courier and Creed; Remy harpoons Harpoon and blows up Riptide and Scalphunter. He considers destroying the clone vats, both defeating and freeing them, but Sinister interrupts. Courier, shot through the head, is still alive. Fontanelle investigates the Tithe Collector's dreams and sees Remy a century ago in London, when Candra made a pact with the Thieves' Guild. Remy holds up the vial Sinister gave him in exchange for assembling the Marauders, intending to pay Sinister with it, but he tells him things aren't that serious yet. He says Creed's adamantium was removed, off-planet, and gives him a booster shot of healing factor. He hands Remy an injection that will detect frauds, and in exchange asks that Creed be left with him. Remy doesn't want him to be able to clone him; instead, he offers him a piece of Courier, to study his cellular control. Courier can grow it back, but he's getting shorter over the years. Exiting, Remy gives Creed to his worshippers, blows up Sinister's portal, and has Courier kill the cells he left behind by remote-control.

Comic Summary: Remy has blackmailed Worth to get his yacht and sail to New York with Courier and Jean Luc. The Thieves' Guild have rented a room on the Lower East Side; Belize gets a slap from his father for questioning the ancient rituals. He has learned that Essex is operating under the alias of Dr. Milbury, obstetrician. Remy already knows that, and he convinces Courier to morph into a female form and make an appointment with him. Reviewing Courier’s blood sample, Sinister discovers his patient is a mutant and, wanting to study further, injects “her“ with narcotics. Passing out, Courier melts; he touches Sinister’s face, revealing he uses make-up to cover his pale face, and evidently could not yet shapeshift. Fontanelle investigates Bella Donna's dreams and learns that she hates and loves Remy. At age 13, she eavesdropped on her father and Gris Gris and heard about Remy’s importance for the future of the Guilds. Remy has asked the local thieves and learns that Müeller, an accused child-killer, knows about Milbury. He dappers himself up and goes to seduce her, in her 5th Avenue mansion. In the entry hall, he is attacked by the Guild. Jacques demands his son back, and Jean Luc, with regrets, smashes Remy on the head with a flower pot. Remy wakes at Müeller's feet; she had many miscarriages, was tried and acquitted of causing them, but her husband ran off with their last child. She tells Remy where to find her doctor, Milbury. The Guild has gone there first, down secret subway tunnels, which is currently under construction. They find a repository of deformed skeletons and are mobbed by early Morlocks. He gives them some texts about the Old Kingdom, then Candra shows up. Remy is with Sinister, who released the Guild two weeks ago and offers to restore Courier; now stuck in female form. All this in exchange for a piece of Courier. Remy wants “Jaqueline“ to repeat the trick (iss. #9) of killing the cells he gave to Sinister, but somehow he can’t do it. Fontanelle investigates Rogue's dreams and warns her that Remy needs her help in the past. She needs to go to Jean Luc. Angel, who has decided to be a humanitarian, makes a deal with the New Son and is told he must kill Remy. Candra traps Ozymandias, and the Guild translates Old Kingdom texts so she can fold space using magic. They are interrupted by Sinister, who uses Apocalypse's transport to do the same, and Remy is with him, cards flying. Sinister has Courier's morphing abilities now and attacks Candra, handing her over to her fellow X-Ternals, who are angry she risked waking Apocalypse. Back in New York, Sinister removes the Guild's memories of the Old Kingdom texts and locks them away in Remy's subconscious. He notices previous work done to the base of his cerebellum, which looks like his own. Remy refuses to explain. Bella Donna is mad that the casket was empty, since it was supposed to tell the unified Guilds how to resurrect the Old Kingdom. Tante Mattie says they still have to try, and Remy is the prophesied savior. A fireball explodes in Siberia. Lapin insults Gris Gris, who then starts choking him, so Remy kinetically charges off his dreadlocks. Fontanelle calls Remy, worried because Courier didn't return. Comic Summary: The New Sun used Quiet Bill to bring Remy to his earth, which is ruined. Remy realizes he's supposed to see this and fear, so he doesn't lose control of his powers, too. He uses his kinetic abilities to keep Bill frozen in time, so the portal stays open. New Sun wants to talk but expects they'll fight after Remy has heard his story. He was born in Alpha-1, a lab like Black Womb, and trained as a weapon. As a teenager he incinerated the lab and wandered. He joined the X-Men, but had to leave when he killed Phoenix. Jean Luc took him in and showed him the prophecies of the Diable Blanc, who was to be a vessel of the King of the Old Kingdom, which preceded Atlantis and Lemuria. No one thought that “bringing the burning light of heaven to earth“ was literal, but when he channeled those energies, a chain reaction of cascading energy waves engulfed the world, making it a new sun and killing everyone except the New Sun. He tried to remake time, the ultimate use of his kinetic power, but failed, instead breaking through to other universes (including the Age of Apocalypse), finding many in ruins, till he got to ours. To save it, he plans to kill Remy, and he starts blasting. Fontanelle has been monitoring Quiet Bill's dreams and wakes him, while Courier reaches him physically. Remy fights kinetic energy wave with kinetic energy wave; something clicks in his head, and his power goes full-force, blasting New Sun all the way to Iraq. They rush each other, colliding a mile above earth, then land in Turkey at the site of the Old Kingdom. Remy knew how powerful he could be and had Sinister lobotomize him (#16, 23). Less powerful but more cunning, he pumps power into the New Sun, overloading him and knocking himself unconscious. He sees Fontanelle in a dream, then wakes to see a statue of the King fall and impale New Sun with a spear. Everything evaporates, and Courier and Bill pull Remy through the portal to safety in the nick of time. Huey is dead, and Bill is distraught. Remy's extra powers have burnt out, so he's back to where he started. Courier asks if Remy will miss being so powerful, but he declines. She asks what he wants, and suddendly he kisses him/her, saying he wants to keep everyone on their toes.

Mastif is the Thieves Guild's fence, and when Remy can't return the jewelry, he nearly has him thrown back to his pets, but his little daughter Minnie is upset, so instead he says Remy owes him a favor. Remy hangs from the ceiling as waiters rob a charity ball in New Orleans. He tosses cards and knocks them all out, to general applause; naturally he doesn't mention he happened to be there to steal a painting. Hercule calls in the favor, then breaks down sobbing. He takes him to Mastif, who has seen better times. He hugs Remy and also sobs, then shows him his beautiful, comatose daughter. She had become a reporter and argued with her father till she left him and married Abrian DuCreste. He stole her heart, literally, and there's a little door in her empty chest. It's voodoo, and Mastif wants Remy to steal her heart back. DuCreste is at Mardi Gras with his arm around another girl. Remy trails him, but then a huge man attacks him. Remy charges his orthodontia, exploding till he gets an address, where he breaks in and finds stacks of hearts in jars, wired to a huge one in a central tank. DuCreste holds his latest girl hostage, then throws her to Remy and smacks him around. He says those hearts were willingly given to him, and he is strong and fast. He breaks off some timber and is about to smash Remy with it; Remy throws a card at the tank. DuCreste disintegrates, and all the hearts disappear, returned to their original owners. ThiRemy stays with Minnie a few days, refusing to answer the phone, as the series ends.

Comic Summary: Remy takes a sports bike and high-tails it to New Orleans, just in time for the Geco Festival. The streets are crowded with revellers and Remy says hi to a few familiar faces, including Ronnie and Ida. He then meets another old friend, Dan Down, in a bar. Dan can listen to the cards, and they are telling him something bad is coming. He warns Remy to be cautious. Remy heads to his apartment, thinking that the old man’s just crazy. Later, he heads into town and joins the revellers on the street. He says hi to more familiar faces, including Madame Camille, before heading over to Club Orleans. He beats up three guys who are hassling a young woman, and is seen doing this by the club’s owner, Orlean Cooper. Cooper is in discussions with an expert thief, Jack Jessup. Upon seeing that Remy LeBeau is back in town, Orlean informs Jessup that his services are no longer required. Jessup insists he’s the best man for the job, but Cooper replies that, as of now, he isn’t. He does, however, give Jessup some cash for his troubles, and tells him to avail himself of his establishment’s hospitality. Cooper then meets with Remy, an old acquaintance of his. He asks what he’s doing in town, and Remy replies that he has a date. A woman calls his name and Remy kisses her, pretending that she really is his date. The woman, Lili Penrose, has a job for him. She wants him to steal a deck of cards. Remy like the idea, and the money that comes with the job. Jessup, meanwhile, tries to take an expensive whiskey from the barman, but is refused it. He puts several items of Cooper’s that he stole on the bar, in return for the bottle, and then shoves a knife through the barman’s hand, telling him to warn Cooper that he’s going to take the job anyway (the same job as Lili has offered Gambit). If the stinkin’ mutant gets in his way, he’ll rip his guts out.

Comic Summary: Gambit visits Madame Camille in her shop. She is scamming some guy for a portion of his recent ill-gotten gains and he is forced to pay up. Gambit enters as the guy leaves, and pulls back the curtain behind Camille. It reveals her assistant, Genevieve, surrounded by computer monitors. It seems she is hacking into all kinds of systems and finding information with which to blackmail people. Remy wants information about the house where Lili Penrose asked him to steal a deck of cards from. Camille recognizes the Penrose Estate as belonging to Morgan Penrose, Lili’s uncle. This is news to Remy. Morgan is, amongst other things, an amateur occultist. She will provide Remy with the information, but asks for a favor in return. Remy heads to the banks of the Mississippi and steals a disk from Stark International, at great risk to himself, which contains a universal firewall bypass. He gives the disk to Camille and he gets the information he requested. Remy then visits Dan Downs at the Glam Slam bar. He asks Dan about the place, and Dan informs Remy that he’s been doing his own investigations. He knows someone else is trying to get the cards, and also that something bad is definitely brewing. He takes Remy to a casino, as Jack Jessup scopes the Penrose place out. Jack calls Orlean Cooper and informs him that he’ll steal the cards and will be in touch afterwards. Orlean informs a demon, who is actually in his office, that everything is going according to plan. At the casino, Dan proves that the cards do indeed appear to give him information but, as he and Remy fold together in order to dig up a clue, the demon appears above them, then it disappears without a word. It was just an illusion. As they leave the casino, Dan informs Remy that the deck of cards he has to steal is a deck of tarot cards with supernatural powers of apocalyptic proportions. If they get into the wrong hands, it could literally mean there’ll be hell to pay.

Comic Summary: With Dan Downs carrying two full gas cans, Remy purposely bumps into a guy carrying a bowling ball in his bag, and switches it for a cabbage. They continue towards the Penrose residence, and Remy asks Dan to place the cans in the middle of the road. They continue walking, and Remy asks Dan to remain outside and keep a look out. To create a diversion, he then bowls the ball, now filled with kinetic energy, straight at the gas cans to create a diversion. Inside the Penrose house, Morgan Penrose has guests that include New Orleans’ supernatural elite. Morgan explains that the deck of tarot cards he wishes them to see, possibly the original deck, was crafted by monks from the Order of Frater Inficio more than seven hundred years ago. They were affected by their time, caring for the mentally afflicted people with ‘poisoned’ minds, and the deck was created as a result of their studying these people’s minds, particularly their mind’s primal recesses. It contained four more cards than a normal deck, and these cards were excised from subsequent decks to ensure human safety, and sanity. The deck is extremely powerful. Remy’s explosion gets the exterior guards out of the way, and he enters the house, taking out the security system with ease. He doesn’t count on Lili Penrose being there, and she’s had a bit to drink. Dan calls Remy on the radio to explain that Orlean Cooper has joined the party, but Remy has more important matters in hand, namely getting it on with Lili. Soon, their dalliance is over and Remy gets back to work. He takes out the two guards in the room containing the deck, and uses his agility to make his way through a laser beam field. He then picks the lock, and removes the deck. Morgan Penrose arrives with his guests, finding the guards unconscious, and his most prized possession gone. Remy returns to Dan Downs, but finds him groggy, and leaning against a tree. Before he can think about what’s happened, he is electrocuted by Jack Jessup, who takes the deck from him. He will ensure Remy is blamed for the theft.

Comic Summary: Morgan Penrose is furious that his precious tarot deck has been stolen. It could be deadly in the wrong hands, and he wants Remy LeBeau to pay for this. Orlean explains that he’s a legitimate businessman and cannot help. His assistant, Alphonse, however, can do whatever he likes. Alphonse walks with Morgan, and informs him that he’s put the word out to his fellow assassins and, by now, Remy should be either dead, or fighting for his life. Elsewhere, Remy has dealt with the potential assassins, and is enjoying a game of Go Fish with Dan Downs. He remembers that he should really be tracking down who’s behind all this, and tries to leave. Dan asks him to stay, and play one more hand. As they continue their game, Dan sees in his cards that Jack Jessup is the one behind their recent mugging. Remy goes after Jack, and disguising himself as a hot dog vendor, easily recovers the stolen tarot deck. As he and Dan wander through the streets of New Orleans, Alphonse appears, alongside a fellow mutant tough guy. Alphonse splits the box holding the tarot deck in two, and the cards fly out. Dan covers Remy’s eyes to avoid him seeing them - they could make him go blind. Dan explains that they’re indestructible, so Remy charges three cards and hurls them at Alphonse. Unfortunately, they don’t retain the charge, and they make no impression on the large assassin, who tells Remy that his power only works on inorganic objects. He should have done his homework. Alphonse and his friend pummel Remy mercilessly, as Dan Downs flees in order to get help. He returns to Remy’s apartment, and spots a deck of cards on the table. He knows he shouldn’t use them, but has little choice. In the cards, he sees a phone number, and calls it. Before he can speak to the person on the other end, Jack Jessup attacks and strangles Dan. On the other end of the line, Wolverine wonders who on Earth is calling.

Comic Summary: Lili Penrose has Remy in mystical shackles, and is preparing to eat his heart. Before she does so, however, she asks what exactly happened to Orlean Cooper and Jack Jessup. Remy obliges her. Remy had visited Madame Camille, and watched Orlean Cooper, who they thought was a mutant, in conversation with three demons on television via a hidden camera. Cooper transformed into a demon himself, and threatened them with the power of the Inficio Aquilus - a powerful set of ancient tarot cards. When they turned out not to be the regular cards, one of the demons scorched Cooper, who wanted revenge against the person he thought had switched them; Jack Jessup. Camille tried to ensure that Remy didn’t let Jessup face Cooper, and so Remy headed off to warn him. After a brief fight, and after his warning had been delivered, Remy still left the pitiful Jessup to his fate. Lili figures she can work out the rest of the story. Remy mentions that he thought her uncle Morgan was the magician in the family. Lili explains he was, until she killed him after learning as much as she needed to. With Remy’s death, and the Inficio Aquilus that Remy has kindly brought with him, she will be formidable beyond belief. As Remy tries to offer her a final piece of advice about dealing with one’s enemies, Lili plunges a dagger into his chest. Strangely, it bends. She rips open his shirt, thinking he may be wearing Kevlar, but instead finds he has one of the tarot cards stuck to his chest. Her eyes immediately burn out, and her skin becomes blotchy and pink. Remy explains that he had Wolverine test out the cards and, though he lost his eyes, he’d get them back. He then informs her that he and the X-Men will destroy the cards, or at least render them useless. She tries to attack him, but he knocks her unconscious, and hears the police sirens outside. As he tries to leave the Penrose house, several officers aim their weapons at him and inform him that he’s going with them. Remy has other ideas.

Comic Summary: Three weeks ago, Emery Arcenaux, a young mutant is caught by his aunt with cash from his latest robbery. He is fed up with her and life in the swamps. He departs, swearing to make something of himself. In the present, Gambit is questioned by detectives about the recent goings on at the Penrose house, and other murders in New Orleans. Unfortunately, they know he’s not guilty of any of the murders, and have to release him. Detective Noreen Tanaka offers to give him a ride to the St. Louis cemetery, but she wishes to take a detour first. She drives to the Louisiana Unified Savings building, where Emery Arcenaux is carrying out a bank robbery. Emery tells the frightened customers that, if everyone does as he asks, no one will get hurt. A security guard takes a shot at him, but his force field protects him. He renders the guard unconscious, and asks if anyone else is feeling suicidal. Gambit says that’ll be him. He throws three charged cards at Emery’s force fields, but it holds with ease. He blasts at Remy, but his agility keeps him clear of danger. Changing tack, Remy persuades Emery that all he’s going to do is to hurt the innocent people around them. He’s a young kid who could maybe use the helping hand of the X-Men. Emery eventually sees sense, and powers down, only to be shot by Detective Tanaka, who breaks down immediately afterwards. After she’s given her side of the story, she gives Remy a lift the rest of the way. It turns out she intended killing Emery in order to further her career - and tells Remy that he’ll have a hard job proving it. By the time the guards arrive, Gambit is gone, the Sentinel is destroyed and the place is a smoking mess. Cichs head guard goes after Gambit but fortunately, the young lady he met earlier provides him with an alibi. As she and Gambit depart, Borya Cich assures his right hand man that they will settle this later. Back at his apartment, Remy tries to touch the object again but this time he is attacked by a strange five-legged creature, which burrows itself painfully into his chest.

He determines that there is no digital record of it anywhere online and suggests that Remy digs around into Borya Cich a little more. They discover that the Museum of the Americas has a small team dedicated to Cichs acquisitions, so Gambit heads over there and finds a map of the place in the lobby. Later, he breaks into the building and avoids its security sensors before discovering two workers lying unconscious. He then spots a woman in the next room searching for something. When he confronts her, they start fighting, but after she finds what shes looking for they are disturbed by a guard. She quickly heads to the roof with Gambit hot on her heels. There, she plays nice for a moment before pulling out a knife with which to pry the parasite from his chest. When he steps back in surprise, he falls off the roof and crashes through a skylight back into the museum. He is arrested whilst she makes her getaway. Gambit is then led to a car in handcuffs. En route to the police station, the woman blocks their path and the car skids to a halt. Remy picks his locks and kicks his two guards out before running the woman over in response to her sending him through the skylight. Comic Summary: After spending some quality time together in a hotel room, Gambit and his mystery lover jump on a plane to Guatemala City and arrive at a large sinkhole; one of many that have appeared throughout the city. She explains that Cich smuggled anything of interest out of there but luckily she got her hands on a map which leads to some kind of temple. She believes there may be something of interest there. They hire a clapped-out old Jeep and head into the jungle, where it promptly breaks down. They instead make their way on foot and soon come across a large carved stone buried deep within the ground. As they approach, it they are attacked by hundreds of spiders but Gambit manages to kill them off by leading them onto the stone before charging it with energy to explode it. They then enter a cavern which seems awfully modern for an ancient civilization’s temple. There, the parasite in Remy’s body begins to lead him in a particular direction. As they enter a room with a circle laid out on the floor, something scans their bodies. Moments later, large tendrils descend from the ceiling and attack them. They fight back and manage to get clear of that room, only to find themselves in a beautiful cavern where the second parasite rests. As they approach it, Remy becomes weaker until it leaves his body to join up with its twin. The woman seems intent on using whatever power they possess for her own needs but, as she approaches them, they look up to see several dragon-like creatures circling above them. Remy tells her that he doesn’t believe the parasites are fixing to deliver the power of the gods; they are bring the gods to them!

Comic Summary: The two mysterious parasites, one of which was once embedded in Remy’s chest, lock together and open a portal to another dimension. With the ’power of the gods’ somehow not forthcoming, Remy’s mysterious companion realizes that this isn’t what she expected. A giant multi-headed creature comes through the portal and attacks them, forcing the pair of them to run for their lives. They make their way to a small cave, but the creature’s prehensile tongue grabs the woman and drags her away. Remy gives chase and he ends up inside the creature, exploding it from the inside using his energy powers. Another monster grabs her and pulls her through the portal so Remy gives chase once again, though it’s hard going as he finds it difficult to breathe in this new dimension. Nevertheless, he manages to rescue her from its clutches and they make their escape. They get back through the portal but one of the creatures follows. Remy decides to try and close the portal by charging a card. He sticks it into the twin parasites which created the portal and, when it explodes, this does the job. Grateful for the save, the mystery woman informs him that her name is Joelle, but before he can get any more information she knocks him out cold. Comic Summary: Pete Wisdom is on the warpath and has Gambit in his sights. Meanwhile, Remy is the captive of Russian megalomaniac Borya Cich and is currently being forced to open locked weapons cases stolen from MI:13. Working for others doesn’t sit well with Gambit. Unseen, he charges up a card with a timed explosive. When it goes off, he grabs a weapon from the case he’s working on and shoots Remlik with it. Unfortunately, Remlik isn’t particularly affected by it and it emerges that he is something of an experiment, having being augmented several times by Cich using body parts from aliens, mutants and others. He and Remy then fight so Remy tries to use Borya Cich as a hostage. Cich zaps him with a cane, which forces Remy to release his grip. Cich has finally had enough and orders Remlik to kill him. Gambit then reveals that he has the remote control for the explosive anklet he’s been wearing. He activates the anklet which he earlier placed outside the door and through the hole he creates comes Pete Wisdom and agents of MI:13. They do battle with Cich’s men and are too strong for them. Remlik, for all his augmentations, is taken out by Remy with a kick to his glass jaw. As Cich and his crew are led away, Pete Wisdom gives Gambit a severe ticking off but lets him go, understanding that he was forced to act the way he did. As Remy is flown home, he contacts Fence, who plays him footage about an E.S.U. professor in trouble which demands his immediate attention.

Comic Summary: After receiving a distress call from an E.S.U. professor, Gambit heads to the Forever City, former home of the High Evolutionary. Wearing a suit designed by Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four which negates evolutionary energies, he enters the city and soon discovers the evolution engine, which is still operational. He also notices some pretty large claw marks on the wall, which gives him cause for concern. He manages to gain access to a room that one of the creatures there was trying to get into and finds the professor and some of her students. Turns out, the evolution engine has been operating and turned not only some of the local wildlife into evolved versions of themselves, but also some of the students. Gambit introduces himself and tells them that he will try to get them out of there. With a creature at the door, he figures the roof is the best option. They head up there, but one of the student’s sneezes on the face of another and Gambit realizes that her bacteria has evolved. As more creatures arrive, alerted by the sound of the sneeze, they make a run for it. Gambit orders them to get to the edge of the city whilst he stays behind and deals with the pursuing creatures. Once he’s dealt with them in his own inimitable fashion, he finds the others and tells the professor that he’ll contact Hank McCoy to help sort out the mess there. Something the professor says then reminds him of Joelle and he calls Fence to ask him to tell him where she is, should he manage to locate her. He just hopes she hasn’t got into any more trouble. Meanwhile, Joelle finds herself at a club where super-villains hang out. She asks the doorman for his boss. She has someone in her pocket he might be interested in.

With only beta clearance available they are soon attacked by mutates… old Hydra experiments left behind to kill trespassers. There are many of them and they are joined by a giant which emerges through the floor. It targets Remy and shoots at him but he uses a couple of smaller mutates as shields. Using his acrobatics combined with charged playing cards, Gambit manages to destroy the giant. He and Joelle then manage to kill a few more mutates as they escape into a room high above where they’ve just come from. There they discover what they have come for, a cabinet containing several vials. Gambit uses his lock picking skills to gain access to it and Joelle removes one of them, handing it over. She hopes this will cure her daughter. The computer then initiates a zero protocol and Gambit reckons that it’s time to make their escape. He blows a hole in the floor and they make a swift exit using a snowmobile. Once outside, Remy half expects the place to blow up but it doesn’t. Back at their base, Tombstone locates Fence and explains that he believes what Gambit has got is a zero compound, a chemical weapon. He wants to know where they are. Comic Summary: Remy and Bishop are under fire, unable to contact help by radio. Cyclops blasts them and grapples with Bishop, saying even he can't absorb that much energy at once. Bishop's hand glows; Cyclops is reduced to a skeleton; Bishop has killed his boyhood idol! Remy shakes him from his shock; they need to escape from the mansion. They find an icy landscape and realize Iceman has been turned, too. Remy tries for the door, but he's frozen in mid-air. Then Iceman attacks Bishop. Bishop wakes from this nightmare. Xavier is there, having sensed that Bishop's mind was time traveling. He takes Bishop to the lab for Beast to conduct tests. Turns out Bishop is infected with a subdermal symbiote. Remy and Rogue have been on a date. She's not sure their relationship can be rebuilt, but she's willing to try. As they approach the mansion, it blows up. Rogue disappears, and Remy sees the windows are intact. He cautiously enters and finds the X-Men in the lab waiting for him. Something is not right.

Comic Summary: Remy, suspicious of his teammates, takes a seat. Beast shows him that Bishop has a symbiote; he tries to leave, but Xavier stops him, so he throws cards and kicks Xavier in the head. Surprised, the X-Men go down, all except Storm, who powers up. Bishop realizes she intends to kill him, and he vaguely remembers her leaving the mansion with part of the team (after X-Men 2nd series #109). “Storm“ attacks, but it just tingles. Remy and Bishop realize the X-Men are illusions, but Beast thumps Remy: only the X-women were illusions, and they fade away. Beast, Nightcrawler, and Xavier (!) are under mind control; it must be Stryfe (X-Men 2nd series 2000 Annual). Remy is more concerned that Bishop is emitting energy not his own. He throws cards and blows a hole in the floor, so they can escape. Bishop chokes him, saying their duty was to rescue Xavier, but Remy says Stryfe must be after Bishop's parasite. He tells Bishop to trust him, and they walk down the Morlock tunnel together.

Comic Summary: Bishop and Remy fly commercial to the Big O; fighter and lover, they are an odd couple. Remy reads Tome magazine, which gives Kelly's death an anti-mutant spin. Remy has Hercule pick them up at the airport and drive them; his boss Mastif owes him a favor. Bishop still thinks they shouldn’t have abandoned the others to Stryfe, but Remy says to trust him. They stop at a beautifully serene cemetery, where Remy played as a child, and enter a mausoleum. Bishop grows impatient and wants answers from Remy. Below ground sits an old friend, the Witness, amid collected super-hero souvenirs. He explains that his power is to remember all possible futures as well as the past. Remy came across him when he was six, but he's been out of touch since he joined the X-Men. Bishop has trouble accepting this is the same man from his own timeline, who he thought was an aged Remy. The Witness says they don't always see what's there, and he points out that Stryfe is behind them on the floor, asking for their help.

Comic Notes: Character Interaction: Bishop, Witness

Fun Fact: This issue adds to the mystery of the Witness. When Bishop first appeared in the present he states that Remy LeBeau is actually the man known as The Witness from his time line. This issue brings the present day Gambit and The Witness together. It is revealed that Gambit has known The Witness most of his life and as a child Remy would visit the Witness at a local cemetery. It is never said that they are not the same person, but it is never said they are. The Witness has the ability to jump times and places, but Gambit has also shown this ability when his powers are at their strongest level. Even Bishop seems to be confused by the two men.

Comic Summary: Stryfe begs for help; Bishop smacks him, because his Legacy Virus killed so many. Remy has to pull him off. Stryfe zaps them both, saying he's still powerful, even if he needs their help. Remy says they should stop fighting and go out to a diner; Stryfe telepathically masks their appearances. Stryfe: "You have no right to judge me, Bishop. You did not live my life." He tells them his story. In the future, Rachel Summers cloned him from Nathan as a precaution, since the baby had the T-O virus; he was captured by Apocalypse, who raised him to become his vessel, till he found out he was a clone. His life had no purpose, and Stryfe battled Cable where- and whenever he could, as he only was his imitation. Bishop has enough and blasts him through the wall. Stryfe continues that he was demented when he created the Legacy Virus and wishes he could repair the damage, as he now repairs the wall. He wants protection from Cable, who wants to kill him.

Comic Summary: Bishop and Remy say Stryfe deserves to die; even he admits he brought it on himself; the Witness says he's never seen an X-Man, past or future, kill for retribution. But he's not allowed to tell them the whole future, and that wouldn't be any fun, anyway. Over pie, Bishop asks Stryfe about his symbiote; it is the Bete Noir, power beyond imagination, especially coupled to Bishop. He admits he wanted to use it to destroy the world, and that’s why he possessed the X-Men. The fork in Bishop's hand becomes a techno-organic gauntlet; Remy throws a card, shattering it; Stryfe says it's Cable's work. Techno-organics engulf Stryfe and the Witness, and Bishop and Remy go under trying to rescue them. Suddenly it disappears, and the waitress says Stryfe's twin took him away while they were roughhousing. Remy leaves a necklace to pay for the damages and says Cable will kill Stryfe at a nexus in time, to prevent his return (or else Stryfe could return from death once more). The nearest one is the Witness's mausoleum, and they find that the entire graveyard has been T-O'd.

Comic Summary: Remy and Bishop enter the cemetery, hopping over the T-O and wondering how to stop Cable. They find him standing over Stryfe; he telepathically made him experience all the deaths he caused. He plans to kill him, justifying it as "an aberrant form of suicide," since he's only his clone. He has seen the future and will act to prevent it. Stryfe, in shock, whispers that since Kelly's death, all futures have been disrupted, and nothing is certain. Remy and Bishop try to dissuade Cable, but he forces Stryfe to explain the Bete Noir. It is an ancient force, banished by the Phoenix Force to earth’s core and called by many names including Satan. When Bishop returned from the Chronomancer future, it bonded to him, the perfect host thanks to his mutant power, and it plans first to morally corrupt and eventually to destroy all life. The Witness gives Bishop a shirt similar to Havok's containment suit, to contain it. Stryfe admits he wanted to use the Bete Noir to destroy the world, but says it's just his nature, like Remy is a scoundrel-hero, Cable a reluctant messiah, and Bishop a law-enforcer. None of them can change. Cable is unconvinced and raises his gun, but just then the Bete Noir erupts from Bishop's chest.

Comic Summary: The X-Ternals find themselves on an alien planet and are immediately approached by the Imperial Guard. After a quick battle where both Starbolt and Gladiator are knocked for a loop, the X-Ternals head into the jungle to escape. They are able to hide from the Imperial Guard but are snagged by the plants and vines. A Shi’Ar / Mephistoid hybrid named Jonath comes along with his crew and releases them. He proceeds to tell them the recent history of the Shi’ar empire. Emperor D’Ken has forcefully wrested control over the empire, forcing his older sister Deathbird into exile. D’Ken’s mad quest for power caused him to tamper with the M’Kraan crystal and the expanding nexus is now endangering the entire universe. More and more frequently the crystal sends out waves of energy that cause the eradication of all reality for brief glimpses. Meanwhile Rictor, who followed the mutants through Lila’s teleportation gate, has surrendered to the Imperial Guard and makes a deal with them. He has a tracking device planted on one of them and will help to hunt them down if he can deliver the X-Ternals back to earth as his captives. Gladiator agrees and soon the Imperial Guard and Rictor crash in on the X-Ternals and their new friend. Unfortunately for everyone, the crystal wave starts enveloping the planet. Shortly after, almost everyone is crystallized. Luckily, the X-Ternals are beamed up to a ship piloted by the Starjammers, led by Deathbird. She explains that the crystal wanted to show them that it is not a mere piece of rock and that not only earth’s fate is in the hands of the mutants but that of the entire universe.

Comic Summary: The X-Ternals and Starjammers make it to their destination, the planet where the M’Kraan crystal is located. While the Starjammers try to distract the Shi’Ar fleet, Deathbird accompanies the X-Ternals to the planet‘s surface. Guido, Jubilee, and Sunspot take on D’Ken’s army, while Gambit, Lila and Deathbird head off to look for the crystal. They find less resistance then expected and quickly arrive in front of the giant crystal leaving Gambit and Lila puzzled how to steal something that big. Deathbird explains that one shard is as much as the entire crystal – after all it contains infinity. While they wonder how top cut off a piece, Lila gets pulled inside the structure. Gambit and Deathbird follow and meet a creature by the name of Jahf. He introduces himself as the M’Kraan’s guardian. He brings the odd couple to Lila and D’Ken, both frozen in front of the pink sphere that contains the neutron sun that makes up the crystal‘s essence. Deathbird wants to use the situation to her advantage and tries to kill her brother, but ends up in stasis as well. Jahf explains to Gambit that it’s up to him to save the universe, or actually all universes. Because of Xavier‘s death, Jean Grey never received the proper training and Phoenix never repaired the crystal. With this nexus place left open, matter drafts into the structures anti-matter galaxy, and in a cascading effect every single reality will get consumed. To prevent this, Gambit needs to get a crystal shard, get back to earth and help to send Bishop back in time. However in order to gain a piece, he needs to sacrifice something. Outside the “Blinks” keep occurring as the three X-Ternals are fighting the Shi’Ar forces including Rictor and Gladiator. ‘Berto changes color with every “Blink”, absorbing more and more of the released energy until he glows bright white. Another "Blink“ turns all of the Shi’Ar to glass, and knowing that he has reached his absorption limit, Sunspot order Guido, Jubilee and Rictor into the crystal too. There the witness Gambit whispering Rogue’s name as he hits the sphere and is granted the desired M’Kraan fragment. The team’s ready to head back to Earth, but Sunspot remains behind as he can’t contain the destructive energies much longer.

Comic Summary: Wolverine has been injured before, but never like this. Blasted with 5,000 rounds of machine gun shells and lifted to the edge of earth's atmosphere by a giant robot, Wolverine was 85,000 feet in the air when he finally disabled the killing machine. Now, after a horrendous descent and fiery crash into a rural Nebraska cornfield, he lies at the edge of death, lapsing in and out of a coma as his body desperately tries to heal. And that's when things really get bad. The men who sent the robot to destroy Wolverine have come to finish the job. The townsfolk who witnessed the crash have gathered up a mob to hunt down and destroy the alien that's landed. And Wolverine's fate just might rest in the hands of the strange little girl who first found him in that dark cornfield. A strange little girl with an affinity for taking care of odd creatures, and whose family holds a deep, dark secret hidden from the light of day... House of Blood and Sorrow is an all new 34-page chilling story just in time for Halloween!

Comic Summary: Gambit sits on the roof of the Institute, feeling chained to the past and fearful of the future. Storm joins him and her answers to Remy’s questions about the nature of a person go nowhere to allay his sense of pessimism. In San Francisco, Beast and Professor Xavier attempt to play down the possible threat that the Legacy Virus has brought with it. Audience member Renee Majcomb is sceptical and it falls to Dr. Valerie Cooper to put a government slant on the argument by insisting that, at this point, there is insufficient scientific information available to determine whether it is a threat. At the Institute, Boomer begins to doubt Sabretooth’s sincerity but Gambit has no doubts, and tries to torture him with holographic images of the people Creed has killed. When he goes too far, Storm steps in and warns him off. After the conference in San Francisco, Hank finds Professor Xavier in a contemplative mood and they discuss Sabretooth and his possible rehabilitation. Hank makes the point that Creed has committed many crimes and it is in his nature to kill. They couldn’t change him, and they shouldn’t let Sabretooth change them.

Comic Summary: On the Brotherhood of Raptors' main ship, the Imperator asks his small council, the 13 Talons, what are their current operations against the newly reconstituted Nova Corps. The leader of the 13, Talonar, says that their spies have been collecting sensitive data about them: the Novas have been rebuilding strongholds all across the galaxy, but their headquarters are positioned within a large asteroid between the Shi'ar and the Terran systems, who they informally call "The Rock". Here, the Nova Corps get their fundings from donations and the minings from the asteroid itself. The overall morale of the troops is weak, though, and the leaders are too weak to change the current state of affairs. On top of that, the Raptors' infiltrates are ready to destroy the Corps from the inside.

Comic Notes: Fun Fact: Gambit is not in the storyline or cover. This is the only comic that features the Gambit Marvel Value Stamp. It is not in any variants of this comic, only the standard release, featured here.
